Soon the students will return. This is not necessarily a blessing. Some of them add sparkle and pizzazz to this town, and disturb the comfortable self-satisfaction of the average Berkeleyite. Other, unfortunately, give vent to their innate Messiah complexes, and insist on saving the world.
Given that like the priggish middle-classes here, they too are staggeringly ignorant and undeep, you can imagine how unfortunate their involvements will be.
Each academic year brings with it new and increasingly unpleasant surprises.
I look forward to this fall with trepidation.

The official first post
My name is Chaim. And, as you can tell from the name of this blog, I live in Berkeley, California.
Which is both a blessing and a curse.
Nevertheless I shall continue to live here.
Given what the real-estate market is like, moving is entirely out of the question.
Peevishness and ire are always options, however.
